Welcome

You visit our website at another significant milestone in the history of Burscough Priory Science College as we welcome our new Headteacher Mr D Bruce back to the School. Mr Bruce was previously a Deputy Headteacher at Priory for a period of six years from 1992-1998. Mr Bruce returns to Priory just as the School celebrates achieving the best ever GCSE examination results which is the culmination of a lot of hard work by both pupils and staff.

Life at Priory extends much further than just an pure academic approach and our ethos focuses on developing the whole child to ensure the young people who leave us at the age of 16 are well prepared both academically and socially for whatever chosen path they then embark on, be it further education or employment. Through this website we try and present the wider picture of life at Priory although due to the diverse variety of both curricular and extra curricular activities it is impossible for us to show you everything that is happening within the School at any point in time.

We hope this website gives you a taste of life at Burscough Priory Science College but if you would like to find out more why not plan to visit the school, (please contact us and schedule a visit) or take a virtual tour of the school Here

On Tuesday July 14th 2008, pupils past and present from Burscough Priory came together to present a Gala Concert for Mr Leighton, to celebrate his twenty four years as head teacher. The concert was a sell out and the audience was entertained by performances of the very highest standard. Several past pupils surprised Mr Leighton by their attendance and, in particular, we were thrilled to welcome Dean Chisnall back to the Priory stage. Currently, Dean is rehearsing for a role in ‘La Cage Aux Folles’ before he joins the cast of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s sequel to Phantom of the Opera. A huge congratulations to all the singers that took graded singing examinations in July. There were twelve pupils entered and nine of them achieved distinctions, the highest category of marks available. This is an absolutely incredible achievement. Well done! Five of those entered passed grade six. This is the first time that Priory pupils have been entered at such a high grade and Francesca Fairclough, Lydia Craddock, Rachel Prescott, Emma Francis and Hannah Avery all did incredibly well in achieving success at this level. »More

19 year 10 Priory students have jumped at the chance to study GCSE astronomy as an extra-curricula subject. The course is being run by Mrs. Fidler and Mr Jackson who decided to offer students this opportunity in celebration of the
International Year of Astronomy.  Student reaction to the course has been excellent, "When I was offered astronomy, I jumped to the chance! I love the thought of what is outside our own planet and universe so the opportunity to find out was not to be rejected!" Lydia Craddock 10C. Next time you see a Priory pupil walking along the road with their iPod earphones in their ears don't jump to the conclusion that they are listening to the latest tracks by the likes of Duffy or Kings of Leon as they could actually be revising!
Eleven pupils were selected to visit Rock Fm and take part in a podcasting revision session for English and Maths.  The content of the podcasts were English and Maths revision techniques using an interesting script with “5 Steps to Success” in their chosen area. These scripts were then recorded and  music is added as a background to the scripts.

A very big "well done" to everyone involved in the school's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the end of last term. This was another fantastic production and certainly one which lived up to the very high expectations everyone now has of productions at Priory. These productions don't just happen overnight and the end results were certainly an indication of all of the hard work that had been done prior to the productions themselves. Photo's of the production can be found
